My dad can do ANYTHING! I know, I have seen it with my own two eyes. He is amazing. It really does blow my mind the things that my dad can do. Things that he is not trained in, he can do, things that he has never done before, he can do. Put a task before him, he can accomplish it. Now, that being said, the manner in which it gets done is a bit of a different story. (Sorry Dad!) but, it does get done! He is inventive, creative, ingenious, smarter than your average joe, my dad is truly one of a kind.
Let me take you back to a few weeks ago when I called him up to see if he was able to get me a new sink. Ours, we found, had a leak in the faucet and since we needed a new faucet, why not a new sink...right? Right, that's what I told Mike. SO...I called up my dad and by the end of the week I had a beautiful new sink in my kitchen.
Ok...here's where the story begins. We (Mike and I) were planning on calling a plumber, not that my dad couldn't do it, but we were just planning on calling a plumber to save time and, no offense again dad, but make sure it was installed properly.
My dad shows up with the sink, his 2 bags of tricks, I mean tools, and he is ready for demo. ( I think secretly, he would love to be one of those guys that drives those big monster trucks and smashes all those little cars in the pit of dispair) Off came the faucet, out came the RO System, wires were here and there, water was everywhere. Disposal, disconnected, dishwasher, disconnected. "Ok...were good"...off came the sink, my heart sank as I prayed the counter tops didn't crumble...and my dad's exact words were, "this is how you get new counter tops", not the comfort I was looking for. But to my surprise, out came the sink and not a scratch on the counter. YEA!!!!
So...we measured the new sink, perfect. Of course, my dad picked it out. So we go to drop in the new 1000 pound sink, and it fits perfect. Off to a good start. So, what's the problem you ask, the problem is this...the 6 1/2 hours it took my ingenious dad to put together the contraption we like to call "the mouse trap" under the sink. Did it work you ask...OH YES, every thing my dad does works, it's how it works that you need to ask yourself.
Baker's favorite part was the clear hose that he could watch all the chopped up food float through...ya, that was nice.
But, when all was said and done, 3 trips later to Home Depot, and 6 1/2 hours of hard labor it was done. No room for the RO system but the sink was in, and the water was working, the dishwasher ran and the garbage disposal worked. I would say it was a success.
So, on Sunday, we called a plumber, sorry again Dad...we needed to make sure all was well and up to code. When the plumber arrived, and I kid you not, he asked for a camera. YEP, a camera. He said that in 35 years in this business he has never seen a sink installed like this. His words were, "wow, cool". See, everyone likes my dad's work. He took his picture, we printed it out for him, (guess my dad's work is hanging up on the wall somewhere. Not the honors he is usually accustom to I'm guessing) He then proceeded to undo everything my dad worked so hard to accomplish and 10 minutes, no joke, 10 minutes later he was done and we were all set up!

And here it is, my new sink RO and all. Valiant effort to all those to pitched in.

Just a side note, we had more fun wathcing Dad than the plumber!

That is so great! I'm glad you got before and after pictures. Made the story soooo much better. Hats off to your dad for such creativity and handiness.
He is a talented man, that one. I remember one time when he made a makeshift 'tower' for wakeboarding on the boat. I thought my head was going to get clothes-lined off!
That was a great story!!! Thanks for the chuckle!!!
