Do Over Please

So how did you spend your Valentines Day? I’m sure if we were place a bet, I would win for most pathetic.

First of all…we don’t usually go ALL OUT for Valentines Day, but we try and have a nice day. We attempt a dinner of some sort, a date. We try and get away from the boys and have a nice time to enjoy each others company. Nothing too fancy, just time we can spend together and have quiet conversation.

NOT THIS YEAR…

It all started on Friday with a slight beeping in one of the boy’s bedrooms. We noticed the beep and new it was the smoke detector. We changed out the battery and the beeped stopped for all of 30 seconds and another one beeped. This time we could not tell which one it was so we waited and waited and listened and listened and we think we figured it out. So, changed the battery and …BEEP, BEEP…I will spare you the beeps but trust me it was quite annoying and lasted all through the night. Owen came into our bed around 2 and said that he couldn’t sleep with all the “beeping”.

Saturday morning we all woke up and went about our crazy basketball morning as usual. We then got home and listened once again to try and figure out which one of the smoke alarms was beeping. After 4 hours of having your head staring you just don’t care anymore. Off to the store we went and got new batteries for ALL 8 of the smoke alarms. Mike came home and installed them. We had a tax appointment that afternoon at 4. (I know…don’t ask why we went on Valentines Day it’s an even LONGER story) Baker stayed home and watched the boys and we were off. 2 ½ hours later we came home…Really, and yes it took that long and the beeps were still long and strong at this point. (Our poor boys). We took the boys over to my brother’s house for a few hours and he watched them so we could have our “romantic” date.

Off to HOME DEPOT! (Beat that) where we purchased 8, yes 8, new smoke alarms for our home and then came back and installed them. All 8 had new batteries in them already. Never mind that we had just spent $20 on new ones for the old alarms. Mike got them all installed and we waited…quiet! The first time in 2 days…we were so excited. It was worth every penny and then BEEP….BEEP…BEEP…I kid you not. I was ready to just set the house on fire my self. That was it, Mike climbed back up on the ladder and one by one disconnected 4 of the alarms in the back half of the house. It was quiet. What was wrong? We had no idea. We were just happy to have no beeping. That night around 3, I guess that’s technically morning, we hear another beep, Mike jumps out of bed. I really thought he was going to rip them out of the wall. He continued to disconnect the other 4 and put all 8 in the garage (where we can still hear them beep mind you).

Sunday morning was not a pretty morning. We all woke up cranky from the beeps the 2 days prior and anger and frustration were abundant to say the least. In the middle of the night we could not figure out how the alarms could be beeping when there were none connected, we realized that the carbon monoxide alarm had gone out and needed a new battery. What are the odds of that happening I would just like to know…?

SO, we switched out the batteries for the carbon monoxide alarm, reconnected the smoke alarms for the 3rd or 4th time really, I’ve lost count at this point, and I am happy to report NO MORE BEEPS!!!!

Happy Valentines Day! XOXO

Yup, you win. Most pathetic valentines day. Glad you've got the beeping situation under control now. I'm impressed how long you lived with that. I'd have had to move to a new state.
