As I dropped him off and waited until I could not take it any longer, I realized for a small instant that I would now be alone with my four boys for FOUR days along with all these women who's husbands also who had been "called to serve". Be it a "Big Brother", a "Ma and Pa" or any sort of leader...we were "holding down the fort" so to speak" as our MEN went off to Serve the Lord, do as He had asked.
The DIFFERENCE...I, have summer movies, a swimming pool, the mall, xarcade, a library, ice-skating and roller rinks, rec centers, water parks, lazertag, bowling, indoor pizza centers, and I could go on and on...those that were left behind so long ago had farms to tend to, flocks to take care of, children that were dying and had no medical cures, family that they had left behind, no money at all for supplies that they NEEDED not WANTED. I found myself driving home wondering if "Sonic" was open at 4:45 in the morning....not if my children were safe or if my home would be there when I returned.
How different our two experiences as women are. Both husbands left...mine for four day, theirs for unknown amounts of time. But one thing is the same, both went with the same purpose, to serve. The blessings, however I believe are the same as each family is serving the Lord. Perhaps I see so many pioneers as wise because they knew that serving the Lord would bring blessings beyond their wildest imagination. No doubt they had their share of trial and turmoil but in the end, some of our greatest stories, temples and prophets come from these amazing people who were willing to serve and give so FREELY to the Lord.
Mosiah 2:17
17-And behold, I tell you these things that ye may learn awisdom; that ye may learn that when ye are in the bservice of your cfellow beings ye are only in the service of your God.
I will certainly be COUNTING down the days, hours, minutes, and seconds until Mike gets home on Saturday! BUT...I do hope he has a wonderful time. I hope that he loves this experience that has been given to him, AS I hope I can LOVE the same experience that has been given to me.

Michael always such a great "big brother". I hope he has a great experience. Good luck to you and all the wives/mothers left behind!
I can't wait to see the "AFTER" picture. We gotta be sure to take one of those :)
What a trooper Mike is . . . when I was invited to go on our trek two years ago I politely declined and sent Jeff. Do I feel guilty about this . . . NOPE!
Send me to Camp Lo-Mia anytime for 5 days, but please NEVER send me camping, living like a pioneer for even a day! Kudos to all of my pioneer ancestors, I am happy to be alive now here in the 21st century. :-)
